LiveEcon has been extensively trialled in the field at the Universities of Aberdeen and Cambridge. Feedback from students has enhanced the development of the package. Below are several suggestions as to how LiveEcon can be used.

  1. LiveEcon Engage allows you to set assignments online to support your students between classes and receive feedback on their results. You can use pre-prepared case studies and quizzes or add your own.
  2. The tutorials can be used as pre-reading to support lecture, seminar or tutorial activity
  3. The lecturers’ notes may be used as a ready made course for those instructors without an existing text or who are looking to replace existing conventional texts. A key advantage is that each point in the accompanying PowerPoint slides can be immediately illustrated by switching to the U-Drive-It! mode and dragging the appropriate scrollbar.
  4. LiveEcon can import your own PowerPoint slides or those from your existing favourite text. Again, policy can be immediately brought to life by easily switching to the U-Drive-It! mode and dragging the appropriate scrollbar. In this way LiveEcon can support your existing text and yield an additional interactive dimension to your exposition.
  5. LiveEcon is very successfully used in workshops, where students can access networked versions of the package and experiment with policy analysis. The greatest success is achieved when this is structured towards achieving some particular policy goals chosen by the instructor. In this way, LiveEcon can be viewed as a useful supplement to the normal lecture and tutorial activity.
  6. LiveEcon can be used as a revision aid. The formative assessment quizzes provide useful feedback and allow students to self pace their learning and monitor their understanding.
  7. LiveEcon has enormous potential for use in distance learning environments. The tutorials can be employed as virtual tutorials, the U-drive-It! as virtual workshops, and the quizzes as either formative or summative assessment.
